A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BLUE DEVIL MARCHING BAND UNDER THE DIRECTION OF JOHN AND LORA EMERSON UPON WINNING THE CLASS 3A MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on Saturday, October 29, 2011, the Booneville High School Blue Devil Marching Band was awarded first place honors in the Class 3A Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Marching Band Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this outstanding band of 73 members won the Class 3A State Marching Band Championship with an exciting performance of their program, a lively and stimulating arrangement called, "New Day"; and

     WHEREAS, it is rare in competitions of this nature to see back-to-back championships awarded; however, this year, Booneville High School claimed their third consecutive title, making a total of five championship titles; and

     WHEREAS, the Blue Devil Band has been magnificently directed by John and Lora Emerson, who have worked tirelessly to refine the skills of their pupils, accrediting the championship win to the ease of instruction with this group of students and the support of the administration of Booneville High School and the Booneville School District; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the Booneville High School Band have persevered to attain the highest honor within MHSAA's honors and awards, and they have remained dedicated to refining their talents and honing their musical skills; and

     WHEREAS, past recipients of the American School Band Directors Association's Award of Excellence for their achievements over the history of the band program, Directors John and Lora Emerson have proven to be resourceful and influential on a national level; and

     WHEREAS, the 2011-2012 Blue Devil Band is comprised of the following members:  Dashiyah Agnew, Dalvin Agnew, Elizabeth Akers, Evan Akers, Portia Anglin, Zach Armstrong, Kristina Barcigalupia, Jonah Bennett, Jordan Bennett, Kieran Bonds, David Boren, Josh Brumley, David Bryde, Connor Burns, Steven Byrd, Tyler Cartwright, Dylan Clayton, Constance Cleveland, Breanna Crabb, Kennedy Curtis, Hanna Darst, Jasmyne DeHart, Tiffini Dunahue, Bryson Edge, Talon Ferguson, Drew Fisher, Jeffrey Floyd, Caleb Fowler, Jake Garrett, Brianna Hall, Alexandria Hamm, Wesley Hardin, Sarah Harris, Tabatha Henderson, Lucy Hill, Easton Holley, Laura Horn, Samantha Howell, Mary Alyse Jamieson, Charles Karnes, Ethan Kendrick, Madison Lindsey, Blake McCoy, Lynette McCoy, Alex McDonald, Asiyanna McGee, Emily McKinney, Angelina Meeks, Frederic Metcalfe, Meridith Mincy, Jessica Owens, Khalil Patterson, Chaniqua Pierce, Kurt Robbins, Austin Short, Khyla Shumpert, Katelin Simmons, Melissa Smith, Terry Spence, Celeste Spencer, Abigail Taylor, Karl Trace, Samantha VanRosenberg, Courtney Walden, Lauren Ward, Kasheda Warren, Nathan Welch, Jennifer Whitehead, Alexis Wicks, Tyler Womble, Christopher Woolum, Parish Wright and Noah Wright; and

     WHEREAS, the arrangement and drill performed by the Blue Devil Band was written, arranged and instructed by the adjunct staff, who provided talented and gifted assistance to Directors John and Lora Emerson, and many members of the adjunct staff are past Blue Devil Band members, including:  Tim Pierce, Price Walden, Keith Morgan, Gilles Ouellette, Kayla Emerson, Joey Kennedy, Callie McGrew, Carlie McGrew and Keith Morgan; and

     WHEREAS, the Blue Devil Band has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and an inspirational degree of sportsmanship, and their behavior and attitudes reflect tremendously upon the individual members, their directors and parents and bring honor to Booneville High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the special accomplishments of the youth of this state, who are its future, and who are an outstanding group of student musicians who have brought honor to their school, their parents, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville High School Blue Devil Marching Band and its directors, John and Lora Emerson, upon winning the 2011 Class 3A Mississippi High School Activities Association Marching Band Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future musical and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Directors John and Lora Emerson, Principal Terry King, the Booneville School District School Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
