House Concurrent Resolution 41
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ROWDY BRISCOE UPON BEING NAMED THE 2024 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI YOUTH ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.
WHEREAS, Rowdy Briscoe is being honored and celebrated upon being named the 2024 States Games of Mississippi Youth Athlete of the Year, due to his outstanding athletic performance, sportsmanship and positive attitude; and
WHEREAS, Rowdy, a thirteen year old from Choctaw, Mississippi, has always had a passion for stickball, which is a part of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians' rich tradition; and
WHEREAS, receiving his own stickball sticks at only two years of age, Rowdy learned to play stickball from his dad, uncles and friends as well from watching the stickball games at the Choctaw Indian Fair; and
WHEREAS, stickball, which is aptly described as the "grandaddy of all sports", is being carried forward into the next generation, in large part, due to the enthusiasm and zeal that Rowdy has for the sport; and
WHEREAS, Rowdy, who is a vibrant eighth grader at Neshoba Central Middle School, has been playing and mastering stickball for five years and has participated in State Games for six years; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, Rowdy and his team, Beaver Dam, took home the gold medal, and he was named MVP by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, which speaks to the passion, hard work and dedication he has for stickball; and
WHEREAS, as a multi-talented young person, Rowdy is not only a stickball athlete, he has even participated in State Games Youth Baseball and brought home a bronze medal and two silver medals, and outside of State Games, he and his team have won their 4th Championship for the World Series of Stickball, Pushmataha division; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding youth, such as Rowdy Briscoe, whose hard work and zealous dedication to his team and the State Games have brought not only great honor to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians but to the State of Mississippi as a whole:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Rowdy Briscoe on being selected as the 2024 State Games of Mississippi Youth Athlete of the Year, and extend best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Rowdy Briscoe and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
