A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATION AND SERVICE OF MAXINE PARROTT LINDSEY.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Maxine Parrott Lindsey, the youngest of five children born to Mr. and Mrs. George Parrott, Sr., grew up in the Farmhaven Community of Madison County, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, prescribing to a personal philosophy, "To put God first and above all things that I do," Mrs. Lindsey is a woman of strength and faith that exudes from her very being; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lindsey abides by her personal philosophy daily, a truth that is evidenced by her success as a soldier, a health care professional, an entrepreneur, a wife and a mother; and
WHEREAS, while Mrs. Lindsey's professional experiences allowed her to travel the world, the Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) graduate never lost sight of her goals or her calling; and
WHEREAS, this higher calling heard by Mrs. Lindsey was to dedicate her life to the service and assistance of her country and her fellowman; and
WHEREAS, that lifelong path began in 1968 upon receiving an associate degree in nursing from MVSU; and she later, in 1975, received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing; and
WHEREAS, a year after receiving her degree, Mrs. Lindsey was commissioned as a second lieutenant and became the first commissioned African-American officer to join the Mississippi Air National Guard; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, Mrs. Lindsey retired after 20 years of honorable service as a lieutenant colonel with colonel promotable status from the Mississippi Army National Guard; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lindsey also holds the distinct honor of being the first African American in all branches of the Mississippi National Guard to earn the rank of lieutenant colonel; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lindsey's passion, professional background and training as a nurse are unrivaled, and her nursing experiences from 1968 until present have been global, taking her from the hospital to the boardroom as a bedside nurse, military nurse and health care advocate; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, Mrs. Lindsey became the first Occupational Health Nurse Administrator for the State of Mississippi Postal Division; and
WHEREAS, in May 2006, Mrs. Lindsey entered yet another frontier as a health care professional when she founded the CNA Training Center, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that trains individuals to become certified nursing assistants through rigorous training in a nontraditional manner, in order to help retain these lessons as lifelong health care providing skills; and
WHEREAS, the CNA Training Center was also created to assist in providing the health care industry with highly qualified and trained workforce personnel to fill the current shortage in the nursing profession; and
WHEREAS, to date, the CNA Training Center has graduated over 900 students who have been professionally trained and who are now empowered in a health care career; and
WHEREAS, in January 2010, CNA Training Center opened a second location in Itta Bena, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lindsey has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2008 Outstanding Individual Award presented by the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation and a 2009 nomination as one of the 50 leading business women of the year; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lindsey believes that behind every good successful woman is a good man and family, and she is happily married to Edward D. Lindsey, Sr., and they are the proud parents of Marla and Edward, Jr., and the extremely proud grandparents of Miles Jordan and Morgan Dene; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend dedicated service by citizens of this state, such as Mrs. Lindsey, who demonstrate a selflessness that should be modeled by everyone:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the dedication and service of Maxine Parrott Lindsey and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Lindsey and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
