WHEREAS, on June 22, 2009, Nissan North America, Inc., won two top awards in the 2009 Initial Quality Study (IQS) by J.D. Power and Associates; and
WHEREAS, the IQS is based on responses from purchasers and lessees of new 2009 model-year vehicles surveyed after three months of ownership; and

WHEREAS, the Nissan Altima, which is proudly produced in Canton, Mississippi, was awarded the top ranking in the midsize car segment, which is the most competitive segment in America; and
WHEREAS, another top award winner was the Nissan 370Z, which earned the top ranking in the compact premium sports car segment, and the Nissan Frontier was one of the top three models in the midsize pickup segment; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the individual awards, Nissan's overall brand score moved up six spots among all automakers in the overall rankings, from 19th to 13th; and
WHEREAS, the Nissan Altima award is a tribute to the focus on quality demonstrated by the teams in Decherd and Smyrna, Tennessee, and the Magnolia State's own Canton; and
WHEREAS, the Nissan Altima is by far Nissan's biggest seller and the IQS indicates that Canton's Altima has made many customers happy; and
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of Nissan North America is not only a clear indication of their outstanding trade and hard work, but also their drive and determination to be the best, not only on the roads and highways of North America but also in the Canton plant, which brings improvements in the quality of life in Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such a superb company, which has brought honor to the State of Mississippi through its quality products:
