A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. JANETTE LAUGHLIN BREEDLOVE AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.
WHEREAS, beloved Charlestonian and astute businesswoman, Mrs. Janette Laughlin Breedlove, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the blessed age of 94 years, to enter into eternal rest with her Heavenly Father, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Breedlove, a reverent woman with charm and grace, instilled those quality characteristic traits in her own children, as well as her profound work ethic and innate morale, that she exuded in the performance of her duties through her administration of Breedlove Lumber Company, that she jointly operated with her late husband, Harold Raymond Breedlove, from 1934 until his passing in 1988, and which she continued operating before her decision to sell the business in 2000; and
WHEREAS, in the 66 years of business the Breedloves contracted the construction of many of the homes, churches and other structures in the Tallahatchie County area, took personal interest in aiding customers in remodeling and updating their homes and aided a number of young men with aspirations for a career in the construction business to get their foot in the door; and
WHEREAS, a delightful storyteller and one who enjoyed entertaining others with her anecdotes, Mrs. Breedlove retired at the age of 86, and was humbled as she was honored by hundreds with a reception at the City Hall in recognition of "Janette Breedlove Day"; and
WHEREAS, committed to serving her community through social and civic involvement, Mrs. Breedlove devoted much of her time and energy to bettering the quality of life for all as she compelled individuals to become actively engaged in the processes that would provide the people a voice, contributed leadership roles in many service organizations, such as Business and Professional Women's Club, Garden Club and Homemaker's Club, was an adult leader in the 4-H Club and became the first woman to serve on the Tallahatchie Elections Committee; and
WHEREAS, highly respected among state business associates for her leadership abilities, Mrs. Breedlove, after her husband's death, filled his position as Vice President of the Mississippi Building Material Dealer's Association, and served as the first woman president of the association during the following year; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston, Mrs. Breedlove was director of Training Union, G.A.s, Bible School and the Senior Adult Organization, the Keenagers, and enjoyed hosting many church related social events in her home; and
WHEREAS, not only does Mrs. Breedlove's passing signify the loss of a devoted mother and grandmother, but also a giver of wise counsel and close friend who was always available to share an encouraging word and demonstrate unwavering support; and
WHEREAS, though she has now traversed the rivers of life to stand on golden heavenly shores to reunite with her dearly departed husband, Harold, the legacy of her endearing memory will continue to last in the lives of her two daughters, Rebecca Carabelas and Bonnie Roberson; 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such a caring and gentle soul as Mrs. Breedlove, whose passing is the holy will of God manifested in the time and sequence predestined by Him before our birth:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mrs. Janette Laughlin Breedlove and express deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Breedlove and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
