A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE DERYK PARKER FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Deryk Parker, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make 2011 his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Deryk Parker began his legislative service in 2004 after defeating the field of candidates vying to represent the citizens of District 107, which is composed of parts of Forrest, George, Jackson and Stone Counties; and

     WHEREAS, a resident of Lucedale, Mississippi, Representative Parker has utilized the wisdom and experience he has accrued over the years to guide him in his duties as the Vice Chairman of the Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee and as a valuable member of the important Agriculture, Corrections, and Medicaid Committees and the Select Committee on the Gulf Coast Disaster; and

     WHEREAS, born December 9, 1964, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Representative Deryk Parker, after graduating from George County High School, earned degrees from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi which prepared him for his successful career in health care administration; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Legislature, he has developed a reputation as a member who represents the citizens of his district with utmost zeal and integrity, and he will be greatly missed by his friends in the State Capitol; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Parker is of the Southern Baptist faith, and he has been supported in every endeavor embarked upon by his family:  wife, the former Dana Chisholm, and children, Colby and Jenna; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Deryk Parker for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Deryk Parker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
