A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BAY HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR PERFECT RECORD IN THE 2012-2013 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Bay High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team finished the 2012-2013 season with an unbelievable perfect record of 36 wins and zero losses, making the team the first from the Coast in 25 years to finish the season undefeated since the Harrison Central girls team did so in 1988; and
WHEREAS, the culmination of the Lady Tigers's phenomenal year of play came on March 8, 2013, when the team crushed defending state champion Pontotoc by a remarkable score of 65 to 42 in the Class 4A Girls State Tournament finals televised live from the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the victory for the Bay High School team in the state basketball championship was especially rewarding for the Lady Tigers who, the last time they lost, were eliminated in the 2012 Class 4A semifinals by the same Pontotoc Warriors squad; and
WHEREAS, several members of the Lady Tigers Basketball Team have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play in the 2012-2013 season, including senior Terrica Williams being named Player of the State Championship Game after recording highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds in the final game and junior forward Christa Reed being named 2012-2013 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Basketball Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Lady Tigers championship team include: Aerion Dority, Simone Jackson, Terrica Williams, Elese Dorsey, Jamaya Galloway, Breta Hart, Breanna Smith, Ashley Jorden, Taaja Conerly, Alleigh Breckley, Christa Reed and Briana Pinkston; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Debbie Triplett and Assistant Coach Sara Gilmore, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Bay High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bay High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team and their head coach, Debbie Triplett, for their perfect 36-0 record in the 2012-2013 season and for winning the Class 4A State Championship and extend to the individual members of the team and their coaches best wishes for continued success in all of their future academic and athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bay High School, Coach Debbie Triplett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
