A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MASTERS QUARTET UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, the Masters Quartet began providing sensational and enjoyable gospel music to the State of Mississippi 25 years ago in Booneville, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the original members of the quartet were Joe Johnson, Joe Gavin, Terry Scott and Billy Joe DeVaughn, and each time they walked onto a stage together, Mississippi was blessed by the beautiful harmonies they produced; and
WHEREAS, the melodic Masters Quartet has recorded over 15 albums and performed in over 30 states, rewarding audiences with their sweet, tuneful voices during each show; and
WHEREAS, today the talented group consists of long-time member Donald Tallent and his wife, Denise, Joseph Glasgow, Kirk Chapman and Charles Hodges; and
WHEREAS, the Masters Quartet averages 120 dates each year, and their annual singing celebration, which is held on the second Saturday night of November each year, draws over 1,500 gospel music lovers to the City of Booneville for the spectacular event; and
WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that the House of Representatives congratulate the outstanding Mississippi Masters Quartet upon the occasion of their 25th anniversary and recognize the honor that their beautiful gospel music, which is just as majestic now as it was 25 years ago, has brought to the Magnolia State:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Masters Quartet upon the occasion of their 25th anniversary and extend most sincere wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Masters Quartet and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
