A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE MYRTLE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Myrtle High School Girls Cross Country Team of 2023-2024 has brought honor and pride to the Union County, Mississippi School System by winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Myrtle High School Girls Cross Country Team has dominated the Class 1A State Championship for cross country in the State of Mississippi for the 2023-2024 school year, a truly remarkable feat; and
WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Myrtle High School Girls Cross Country Team demonstrated their ability through dedication, perseverance, leadership, and hard work to live up to the championship tradition recognized throughout the State of Mississippi that personifies Union County powerlifting; and
WHEREAS, the success of the powerlifting program at Myrtle is due to the incredible support and resources made available from the parents, coaches, and especially the administration, and for eight years the program has enjoyed an outstanding level of commitment from their community, school, and especially from the athletes; and
WHEREAS, the team's ascent to the pinnacle of powerlifting excellence has been made manifest through the tenacious efforts of both coaches and athletes alike, including: Coaches, Sheena Murphy, Sherry Chapman and Jennifer Fuller; and athletes, Madylynn Hogue, Shelby Thompson, Ally Murphy, Maggie Chapman, Madi Moorman, Peyton Thompson, Abby Fuller, Riley Plymel, Karley Gullick and Leah Merritt; and
WHEREAS, the team will surely carry the unforgettable memories they made along the way and the lessons of hard work, dedication and perseverance learned during this amazing season throughout their lives as they remember the feeling of greatness that accompanies being a champion; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially that displayed by the Myrtle High School Girls Cross Country Team, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this elite group of student-athletes, who have brought honor to Myrtle High School, Union County and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Myrtle High School Girls Cross Country Team for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Myrtle High School Girls Cross Country Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
