A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. BARRY K. WALLACE ON HIS MANY OUTSTANDING AND IMPRESSIVE PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO MISSISSIPPI'S AGRICULTURAL SYSTEM.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Barry K. Wallace, the founder and owner of Wallace Beefmasters of Foxworth, Mississippi, has contributed a wealth of resources and experience toward the development and evolution of Mississippi's agricultural system; and

     WHEREAS, born in 1946 to Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Dulcie Wallace in Tylertown, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a young Barry Wallace evidenced his leadership skills as the class president and as captain of the basketball team of South Pike High School, where he graduated in 1964; and

     WHEREAS, he maintained this pattern of excellence as a student at Mississippi State University, where he consistently earned his place on the Dean's list and President's list and earned his master of agriculture degree; and

     WHEREAS, he is recognized as a knowledgeable county agent in the field of beef cattle and pasture management, has served as manager of the beef cattle breeding show in Hattiesburg and presented beef cattle management information at statewide in-service training for county agents; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his career he has worked with members of the Mississippi Legislature to create Fifteen Million Dollars in  matching funds for cities and counties for the development of multipurpose livestock facilities; and

     WHEREAS, he also organized the first and largest beef Integrated Resources Management group east of the Mississippi River, and from 1990 to 1996 helped to increase Marion County agricultural income from Twenty-three Million Dollars to Forty-two Million Dollars; and

     WHEREAS, he has been awarded by the American Breeder Service for semen sales, Marion County Cattlemen's Association as Purebred Producer of the Year (1996) and the Mississippi Cattleman's Association as Purebred Cattleman of the Year (1997); and

     WHEREAS, as evidence of his commitment to his trade, he is a lifetime member of the Beefmaster Breeder's United, the National Cattlemen's Association, the Mississippi Cattlemen's Association and the Beefmaster Breeders' United, Breed Improvement Committee; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his many lucrative endeavors, he has been supported by his loving wife, Joy, and three children, Tom, Robby and Vanessa; and

     WHEREAS, a faithful Baptist, he is a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he provides active pastoral support, and has served as Sunday School teacher, as member of the choir, Men's Quartet and numerous other committees; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend men, such as Mr. Barry K. Wallace, who have made great contributions to our agricultural system in our state and who continues to ensure that Mississippi ranks high; and

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mr. Barry K. Wallace for his many outstanding and impressive professional and personal contributions to Mississippi's agricultural system.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Barry K. Wallace and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
