A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. EULA MAE HOLMES WELLS, AND EXTEND SINCERE AND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.
WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such on January 16, 2015, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mrs. Eula Mae Holmes Wells, to eternal rest, as she has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi lost a wonderful friend and the Wells family lost a devoted and caring mother with the passing of Mrs. Wells, who was born on Scotland Road, to Mr. Earnest Holmes and Mrs. Otesia Anderson Holmes on September 10, 1927; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wells, who considered herself to be a very cute yet spoiled little girl, joined the church at an early age under the Reverend Salom Robinson at Old Liberty M.B. Church, to enjoy eternal peace because as the awesome Word of God in the Book of Luke, Chapter 2, Verse 29 states, "Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your Word," which may bring peace of mind to Mrs. Wells friends and family; and
WHEREAS, later in life, Mrs. Wells united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend L. J. Martin, the late Pastor Nathaniel Vincent Booker, Pastor Marvin Booker and Pastor Jason Carter, where she served faithfully until her passing; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wells finished the eighth grade under Mrs. Henrine Carter, attended Mary C. Jones in 1940 and 1941, and continued her education at Lanier High School in 1942 through 1943; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wells, an incredible woman whose only wish was true happiness for her children, was held in the highest regard by friends and family, whom she loved unconditionally, and her unselfish love was always displayed through her unwavering desire to place her children's needs before her own, and the knowledge, love, compassion, generosity and wisdom she imparted will not soon be forgotten by those who loved her, as the delightful tenderness of her soul enhanced their lives daily; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wells was a gardener at heart, flourishing with an undeniable zest for life, and encouraged each of her children to dream, and she is cherished in the minds and hearts of all who knew her as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and her demeanor greatly influenced those fortunate to cross her righteous and enlightened path to love as she loved and as the Lord loves all of His children; and
WHEREAS, the perfect balance of protection and independence, Mrs. Wells always knew how to help her children and let them learn from their mistakes at the same time, and as a result, all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have been enriched due to her immaculate presence in their lives, as her illustriously bright smile radiated sunshine that could be seen from miles away and elevated even the most terrible of days and her hugs always led to joy in times of sorrow; and
WHEREAS, as fate would lend itself to building upon the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of her life by the great deity, Mrs. Wells' love and affection pierced the heart of Mr. Willis Wells, and the duo became bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh after exchanging the nuptials of holy matrimony in 1944, and the two, who were married for forty-eight years before Mr. Wells' death on January 6, 1993, completed their family unit with the addition of fifteen children; and
WHEREAS, though she has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon her arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, including her husband, her parents and three children, the legacy of Mrs. Wells' memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of her beloved survivors: sons, Earnest (Kimberly J. Fields) Wells, Charles (Cassandra) Wells, Wilbert (Annie) Wells, Willis (Ferlicia) Wells, Homer (Parthena) Wells and Calvin (Alice) Wells; daughters, Gracie (Lynn) Sanders, Inez (David) Wells, Janice Cole, Kathie (Charles) Washington, Betty (George) Moore and Patricia (S.W.) Fuqua; twenty-six grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandra M. Wells; a very special friend and cousin, Beulah Trowell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the selflessness of such a loving and affectionate individual of esteemed caliber as Mrs. Eula Mae Holmes Wells:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Eula Mae Holmes Wells and extend sincere and deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Eula Mae Holmes Wells and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
