A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING OFFICER KEVIN SANDERS UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE SOUTHAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT AND COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE SOUTHAVEN COMMUNITY.

WHEREAS, Officer Kevin Sanders, an esteemed and distinguished member of the Southaven Police Department retired on November 15, 2024, after more than 26 years of unwavering service protecting the citizens of Southaven; and

WHEREAS, his notable career with the Southaven Police Department began in August of 1999, in the patrol division, where his impressive work ethic and positive attitude earned him a promotion in 2005, to K-9 handler; and

WHEREAS, from 2005 to 2012, he continued to work as a K-9 handler and briefly worked in the fugitive division for a year before transferring to the Intelligence and Analyst position in 2013; and

WHEREAS, as an Intelligence Analyst, he not only provided intelligence information to all divisions, but he also managed the records management system, the license plate reader systems and the Mississippi Department of Transportation camera systems; and

WHEREAS, he also completed expungements, compiled the yearly statistics, and ensured the division was compliant with state and federal crime statistics reporting; and

WHEREAS, driven by a desire to enhance his skills to better serve the Southaven community, Kevin became a member of the SWAT team for 10 years from 2002 to 2012, and was an entry team member as well as a sniper; and

WHEREAS, due to his track record of success, he is well-respected in the law enforcement community with a depth of unquestionable loyalty to the blue shield that makes every law enforcement officer his brother; and

WHEREAS, even though the department has felt his absence since he retired on November 15, 2024, Officer Sanders left his impeccable record of hard work, high integrity and brotherhood which has created a permanent legacy of strength and fortitude; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to celebrate the long and dedicated careers of law enforcement officers like Officer Sanders, who honor their shield by protecting and serving their communities and retire with honor:

NOW, THEREFORE, ON BEHALF OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, we do hereby commend and congratulate Office Kevin Sanders upon his retirement from the Southaven Police Department, and wish him many years of success in his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Officer Kevin Sanders, the Southaven Police Department and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
