A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND THE GALLANT SERVICE OF UNITED STATES MARINE LANCE CORPORAL EDWARD DYCUS OF GREENVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, United States Marine Edward Dycus of Greenville, Mississippi, gave the ultimate pledge of allegiance to this nation with the selfless sacrifice of his life when he died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, while serving his country and family; and
WHEREAS, on that day, his family and friends received word from the United States Marine Corps that Lance Corporal Dycus had given his life while serving in active duty in the Helmand province of Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, now living in eternal peace, Lance Corporal Dycus understood the importance of serving his country, and as his friends noted, "Eddie was born for the military"; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Dycus enlisted in the Marine Corps and entered boot camp in 2010 and had only been in Afghanistan for a few months when his life was taken during combat operations; and
WHEREAS, serving his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Lance Corporal Dycus was an outstanding Marine, eager and willing to serve his nation, even while knowing that his dedication to his country may also mean the ultimate sacrifice of his life for the values and freedoms of a liberated democracy; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Dycus served his country with honor while in harm's way, and not only was he known for his service and sacrifice to his country, he came from a tight-knit family and was known as a great friend, always concerned with making sure that everyone around him was happy; and
WHEREAS, to a country, a fallen soldier means a national loss; to a community, a fallen soldier means a true hero; to a parent, a fallen soldier means a son who will not be coming home; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Dycus is survived by his loving parents, Randy Dycus and Theresa Dycus; his step-father, Franky Drury; his siblings, Rodney, Stephanie, Laura and Martha; his brother-in-law, Adam; his nephews, Hayden, Kaution, Ryder, Caleb and Caden; and a host of other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding citizens, such as Lance Corporal Dycus, who are counted among America's heroes by virtue of their commitment to our nation's safety and security, and it is with great pride and humility that we recognize the heroic sacrifice of this great American and Mississippian:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the gallant service and the life of United States Marine Lance Corporal Edward J. Dycus of Greenville, Mississippi, whose life ended while serving in Afghanistan on February 1, 2012, and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Lance Corporal Dycus, the United States Marine Corps and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
