A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS OF MR. JERRY JOSEPH ELLIS AND EXPRESSING DEEP SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, at the blessed age of 89-years-old, the mortal presence of dearly beloved Mr. Jerry Joseph Ellis transitioned from this life to eternal rest on December 6, 2019, rendering great sorrow to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, born on January 9, 1930, much to the delight of his parents, Jerry attended and graduated from Biloxi High School, and later served in the United States Navy during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, he was a hard worker who provided for his family professionally by working at Andrew Jackson Life; and
WHEREAS, an avid boating enthusiast, Mr. Ellis frequently hosted his friends aboard his Chandeleur boat, the American Beauty, and enjoyed competitive racing for the Biloxi Yacht Club in cat boats, fish boats and flying scots; and
WHEREAS, he enjoyed winning as much as he enjoyed being a part of the team, so he was ecstatic when he became a part of the last Biloxi Yacht Club team when they captured the Lipton Cup, cherished with pride when he won the Sugar Bowl Regatta Race of Champions; and
WHEREAS, second to his passion for boating was his passion for horses, an affection he developed as a child because he owned them from a very young age and took pride in riding the horses in the Fireman's Day Parade; and
WHEREAS, since his retirement, he spent his days and evenings attending the sporting and extracurricular activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, to mourn and cherish his memory, he leaves his children, Glenn and Joseph; his siblings, Richard, Jheri and Berinda; grandchildren, Glenn Jr., Kristy, Jody, Joshua, Jeffery, Kyle and Cole; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the lives of fine Mississippians who enjoy life to the fullest and cherish their families while doing so:
NOW, THEREFORE, ON BEHALF OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss of Mr. Jerry Joseph Ellis and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Jerry J. Ellis and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
