A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS EMMIE PERKINS, MISS MISSISSIPPI 2022, UPON WINNING THE COVETED CROWN AND EXPRESSING BEST WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS AT THE 2022 MISS AMERICA PAGEANT AND IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
WHEREAS, Saturday, June 25, 2022, Miss Emmie Perkins of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was crowned with a sparkling tiara and presented a beautiful bouquet of roses, becoming Miss Mississippi 2022, before a crowded Vicksburg Conference Center of supporters and well-wishers of each contestant; and
WHEREAS, the beautiful and talented Miss Perkins, whose ascent to the Miss Mississippi title began after initially reigning as the 2021 Miss Mississippi State University pageant winner, is the proud daughter of David and Lori Perkins, and exemplary big sister to her younger sister, Sadie; and
WHEREAS, an alumni of Oak Grove High School, Miss Perkins is a senior at Mississippi State University pursuing a degree in public relations with a music minor, where she has excelled academically, and is actively involved as a: volunteer mentor with the ACCESS special needs program; member of Kappa Delta Sorority, where she served as a Gamma Chi for sorority recruitment; Road Runner campus tour guide; member of the Student Association, where she served as the Homecoming and Pageant Co-Director for the years 2020-2021; and Freshman class representative on the 2019 homecoming court in 2019; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins, having deferred her final academic year to graduate in December 2023, in order to fulfill her obligations as Miss Mississippi 2022, will now broaden her reign as Miss Mississippi as the Hospitality State's representative and ambassador at the December production of the 2022 Miss America pageant in Connecticut, hoping to captivate the live audience, panel of judges and viewers at home with her poise, personality and melodious vocals; and
WHEREAS, equipped with an indomitable passion for music that prevails in her daily life, and which has privileged her with numerous opportunities to travel to New York City, where she did not only compete in Broadway Kid Star and was named a top finalist, but also availed herself of the benefit of training at multiple theater workshops, including Open Jar Institute and the Broadway Workshop, Miss Perkins has established "Music is Medicine" as her platform during her tenure as Miss Mississippi 2022; and
WHEREAS, Miss Perkins competed in the Elvis Presley Fan Club Scholarship program in Tupelo and took home the first place scholarship prize of $5,000, in addition to having been tapped as Lamar County's Distinguished Young Woman of 2019, resulting in her having been named as first alternate to Mississippi's Distinguished Young Woman in 2019, and ultimately serving the state as Miss Hattiesburg in 2019-2020 and Miss Mississippi State University in 2021; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor fine Mississippians such as Miss Emmie Perkins, a young woman who exudes poise, class and a tender heart, and serves as an asset and wonderful role model to young girls throughout the great Magnolia State and the nation, with her attitude, determination and professionalism that bring honor to the Hattiesburg Community and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Emmie Perkins, Miss Mississippi 2022, upon winning the coveted crown and express best wishes for continued success in the 2022 Miss America Pageant and all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Emmie Perkins, in acknowledgment of her accomplishment as Miss Mississippi 2022, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
