House Resolution 59

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MAGNOLIA HEIGHTS SCHOOL CHIEFS BASEBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH CHRIS MCMINN UPON WINNING FIVE CONSECUTIVE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (MAIS) STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, FROM 2012-2016.

WHEREAS, the Magnolia Heights Baseball Team has truly become a force to be reckoned with throughout Mississippi and the entire Southeast, as their team continually produces high caliber athletes and has not lost a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) State Championship game since 2011; and

WHEREAS, the team does not discriminate against the opponents it dominates upon the red, dusty diamond; teams from Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama and Mississippi have all suffered defeat at the hands of the mighty Chiefs; and

WHEREAS, the 2013 season has been the most impressive for the Chiefs, although each season is complete with stellar victories and remarkable homeruns, because the overall record was absolute perfection at 37-0, and the Chiefs were ranked in the Top 10 in the country according to Max Preps; and

WHEREAS, from 2012-2016, the Magnolia Heights School Chiefs Baseball Team won five consecutive MAIS State Championships, and its overall record of 168 wins and only 27 losses during that time is nothing short of incredible; and

WHEREAS, if a young man wants to play baseball at the next level, Magnolia Heights School is an excellent place to gain the expertise that will enable him to continue playing the game after high school, as 13 players are currently furthering their education and playing baseball at the collegiate level, representing Mississippi State University, Delta State University, Mississippi College, University of West Alabama, Northwest Community College, Louisiana Tech University, Coahoma Community College and Meridian Community College; and

WHEREAS, the student-athletes who represent each of these colleges and universities have spent countless hours in the batting cage, on the field and in the weight room in order to become the best athlete he can be while also hitting the books, spending time in the library and acing finals so that he can also be the best student he can be, a true testament to the importance of an education imparted to him by the faculty at Magnolia Heights School; and

WHEREAS, the Chiefs team statistics continue to be impressive, and each season produces outstanding catches, double plays, pitches and homeruns by individual players, but the key to the teams' successes each year has been the constant positive team atmosphere and year-round hard work; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Chris McMinn has superbly coached and inspired the Chiefs, broadened their knowledge of the game, and refined their skills in execution, and he continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and the team's successful seasons; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the splendid accomplishments of Mississippi  student-athletes, especially those such as the Magnolia Heights School Chiefs Baseball Team, whose excellence on the field and in the classroom brings honor to their school, their community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Magnolia Heights School Chiefs Baseball Team and Head Coach Chris McMinn upon winning five consecutive Mississippi Association of Independent Schools State Championships, from 2012-2016, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success throughout the 2017 season and in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Chris McMinn and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
