A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF FLORA, MISSISSIPPI, ON THE 125TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF ITS FOUNDING.

     WHEREAS, the congregation of First Baptist Church in Flora, Mississippi, will celebrate the 125th anniversary of God's faithfulness to this great and historical religious institution on April 29, 2012; and

     WHEREAS, First Baptist Church was organized on March 27, 1887, with 32 charter members, and over the past 125 years, the church has grown to a membership of more than 900 souls; and

     WHEREAS, served by 31 pastors during its 125 years, the current sanctuary for First Baptist was built in 1910, and to meet the expanding needs of its growing congregation, the church built its Christian Life Center in 1998, and later built its Christian Education Center in 2010; and

     WHEREAS, in 1959, the First Baptist Church answered a higher calling and, under God's leadership, using the many talents of its congregants in a mission capacity, built Simmons Memorial Baptist Church as a church plant; and

     WHEREAS, First Baptist maintains a vibrant ministry to help people of all ages grow in the faith of Jesus Christ by boldly proclaiming the truth of the Gospel, in order that all the world may know the love of Christ; and

     WHEREAS, offering a wide array of opportunities to grow in Christian fellowship and discipleship, First Baptist Church ministers through its music ministry, its local food pantry ministry and its partnerships with churches in Kila, Montana, and in Hungry Horse, Montana, to continue ongoing missions work in those communities; and

     WHEREAS, ever dutiful to proclaiming the Gospel through mission-oriented outreach, First Baptist supports North American and International Missions through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention, and in spreading the Gospel, the church has been instrumental in supporting numerous missionaries around the world, providing both prayerful and financial support; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the great and historical religious institutions of our state, such as the First Baptist Church of Flora, whose vision, outreach and dedication has been blessed by God to help lead countless individuals to a saving faith in Jesus Christ:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the members of the First Baptist Church of Flora upon the special occasion of their church's 125th anniversary and extend best wishes for continued prosperity, spiritual growth and success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the First Baptist Church of Flora and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
