A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER TEAM UPON COMPLETING A GREAT SEASON AND FINISHING SECOND PLACE IN THE CLASS 4A MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION STATE TOURNAMENT.
WHEREAS, on February 6, 2016, the Lafayette High School Commodores Girls Soccer Team concluded its hard fought season, winning 18 and losing only three games over the course of the excellent season to finish as runner-up to the Class 4A State Champions; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Commodores played great team soccer, as evidenced by their ability to score three times more goals than they allowed; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Commodores were led by Head Coach Melinda Scruggs; wearing the Commodore colors red, white and gold included: Captains, Alley Houghton, Nikki Kesler, Ana Branch and Rachel Watkins; along with team members, Laurie Branch, Marissa Harrison, Madison Lee, Anna Ahmed, Anja Diercks, Emma Scott, Bayleigh Moore, Sara Grace Moore, Emma Wilson, Hallie Moore, Kat Moss, Kirkland Pruitt, Katelin Johnson, Jada Ross, Maddy Houghton, Lucy Wilson and Heather Smith; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Lafayette High School Lady Commodores who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lafayette High School Lady Commodores for completing an outstanding season, finishing 2nd in the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Melinda Scruggs, Lafayette High School Principal Dr. Glen Kitchens and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
