A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WAYNE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL LADY EAGLES GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2009-2010 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE CLASS 5A CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Wayne County High School Lady Eagles Girls Basketball Team finished the 2009-2010 season with an outstanding record of 28 wins and three losses; and
WHEREAS, being incredibly well-disciplined young ladies, the Lady Eagles did very well in the 2009-2010 state playoffs; and
WHEREAS, their winning ways continued at the State Class 5A Championship with a 63-39 victory over West Jones; and
WHEREAS, in order to be the 2010 5A Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Basketball champions, the Wayne County High School Lady Eagles Girls Basketball Team had to invest additional hard work that began in the early fall months and continued through the late spring; and
WHEREAS, adding to the trophy case, the Lady Eagles have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Gina Skelton and Assistant Coach Ratassia Worsham, who have broadened the Lady Eagles' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, many of the Lady Eagles will remember the lessons learned through playing for Head Coach Gina Skelton, such as pushing one's body past exhaustion, pain and other obstacles to victory; and
WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Eagles have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach, bringing honor to Wayne County High School; and
WHEREAS, the members of the 2009-2010 Wayne County High School Lady Eagles Basketball Team are as follows: Taker Mitchell, Ravean Matthews, Akeya Kittler, Brianna Lancaster, Shimari Harris, Farrah Sullivan, Marquita Smooth, Sharmaine Gandy, Meghan Chambers, Vechatita Bonner, Tierro Frost, Kierro Frost, Lauren Douglas, Jaleshia Jones and Maci Chambers; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Wayne County High School Lady Eagles Girls Basketball Team and Head Coach Gina Skelton, for their exceptional 2009-2010 season, for winning the State Class 5A MHSAA Championship and extend best wishes for success in all of their future athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Wayne County High School, Head Coach Gina Skelton and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
