House Resolution 9

A RESOLUTION URGING ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI, INC., TO ASSIST THE RESIDENTS AROUND LAKE HICO WITH RESTORING LAKE HICO TO A PUBLIC PARK FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE COMMUNITY, THE CITY OF JACKSON AND THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, in the 1950s, Lake Hico was created on sixteenth section school land in Jackson, Mississippi, and it was opened to the public as a recreation park until the late 1960s; and

     WHEREAS, the residents around Lake Hico, in the City of Jackson and in the State of Mississippi would all benefit and desire additional recreation parks such as Lake Hico; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi, Inc., leases Lake Hico for supplying water to the nearby Rex Brown Plant, and the company has an opportunity to be instrumental in restoring the lake to its fullest and best use, by not only supplying water for energy but also supplying joyous recreation to residents of the community; and  

     WHEREAS, as leaseholders of the publicly owned land, we entrust that Entergy Mississippi, Inc., would join us in seeking all efforts to better our community, the Capitol City of Jackson and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby urge Entergy Mississippi, Inc., to assist the residents around Lake Hico with restoring Lake Hico to a public park for the betterment of the community, the City of Jackson and the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Entergy Mississippi and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
