Senate Bill 2010
AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 5-1-1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE NUMBER OF REPRESENTATIVES IN THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SHALL BE REDUCED TO 99 REPRESENTATIVES BEGINNING WITH THE 2023 STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION; TO AMEND SECTION 5-1-3, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT THE NUMBER OF SENATORS IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE SHALL BE REDUCED TO 42 SENATORS BEGINNING WITH THE 2023 STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 5-1-1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
5-1-1. From and after
the first Tuesday after the first Monday of January 2024, the number of
Representatives shall be * * *one hundred twenty-two ninety-nine (99) and shall be
elected from ninety-nine (99) districts adopted by joint resolution
as provided in Section 254 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890.
SECTION 2. Section 5-1-3, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
5-1-3. From and after the
first Tuesday after the first Monday of January 2024, the number of
Senators shall be * * *
forty-two (42) and shall be elected from * * * forty-two (42) districts
adopted as provided in Section 254 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2019.
