AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 21-37-43, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO INCREASE TO FOUR MILLS THE AMOUNT THAT THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF A MUNICIPALITY MAY LEVY ANNUALLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING, SUPPORTING AND MAINTAINING PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS, AND FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 21-37-43, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
21-37-43. The governing authorities of any municipality, including any municipality operating under a special charter which has created a park commission, are hereby authorized to levy and collect not more than four (4) mills annually for the purpose of constructing, supporting and maintaining parks and playgrounds, and for recreational purposes in such municipalities. The funds so collected by this tax shall be used for no purpose except as provided in this section.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
