AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ANY COUNTY TO ADOPT A FIRE PREVENTION CODE, APPLICABLE TO ALL RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS, WITH STANDARDS THAT REQUIRE AT A MINIMUM THE INSTALLATION OF SMOKE DETECTORS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The board of supervisors of any county shall adopt no later than January 1, 2011, a fire prevention code, applicable to all residential and commercial buildings, with standards that require at a minimum the installation of smoke detectors. The State Fire Marshal shall annually examine the fire prevention codes adopted by counties within the State of Mississippi and shall enforce the provisions of this section.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
