A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE LIFE OF PROMINENT JACKSON BUSINESSMAN AND COMMUNITY LEADER HAP HEDERMAN.
WHEREAS, Jackson businessman and community leader Hap Hederman passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. He got his nickname "Hap" from a military general and commanding officer that left a lasting impression on his father, Henry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hederman was the Chairman and CEO of Hederman Brothers Printing and had been associated with the company since 1968. He began his professional career with the Mississippi Publishers Corporation, which included the Jackson Daily News and The Clarion-Ledger, and was also associated with the Madison County Herald and the Hattiesburg American before joining Hederman Brothers Printing; and
WHEREAS, he was born on December 28, 1945, in East Orange, New Jersey. He attended The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, and graduated from Murrah High School in Jackson, Mississippi. He received his B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi and earned his M.B.A. from Louisiana State University; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hederman was involved with and held many different positions with numerous civic organizations in Jackson, including the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, The Home Place (Willard F. Bond/Old Ladies Home), Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Association, Mississippi Museum of Art, Board of Visitors of Mississippi College School of Law, Powers-Lake Foundations, Boys Club, University of Mississippi School of Business Council, Mississippi Economic Council, and the University Club Board of Governors. He served on the Board of Mississippi Diversified and was a charter Board Member of Annandale Golf Club. He was also a long-time member of the University of Mississippi Loyalty Foundation; and
WHEREAS, he was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, where he served as a Deacon. He was also an avid golfer and fan of Ole Miss sports; and
WHEREAS, survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sally Holloman Hederman of Jackson; two children, Doug Hederman and his wife, Blair, of Jackson, and Mollie Hederman Young and her husband, Tyler, of Huntsville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Holt Hederman and Sara Hederman, both of Jackson; his mother, Martha Dean Hederman of Jackson; and his sister, Gail Hederman Wallace and her husband, Harry, of Tyler Texas; and
WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this Mississippi citizen who was respected in his community and his state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the life and civic and charitable contributions of prominent Jackson businessman and community leader Hap Hederman and extend to his surviving family the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Hap Hederman and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
