A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE EAST CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE "DIAMOND WARRIORS" BASEBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH NEAL HOLLIMAN FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2016 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, East Central Community College (ECCC) Diamond Warriors Baseball Team won the 2016 MACJC State Baseball Championship May 14 with a dramatic bottom of the ninth inning walk-off single by Mendenhall High School product Billy Cameron to defeat No. 2 Jones County 13-12.  The ECCC Diamond Warriors went undefeated in the double-elimination State Tournament by posting wins over No. 16 Meridian Community College by a score of 19-11, and No. 2 Jones County Junior College by scores of 14-13 and 13-12.  The 2016 State Championship was the fourth in East Central Community College history and the third won by teams coached by Neal Holliman; and

     WHEREAS, the East Central Community College (ECCC) Diamond Warriors Baseball Team finished the 2016 season with a record of 38-17 under 10-year Head Coach Neal Holliman.  The ECCC Diamond Warriors finished third in the 2016 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) regular season competition among 15 teams.  ECCC swept Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the first round of the MACJC playoffs 11-9 and 27-21 at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur to advance to the four-team State Tournament at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville; and

     WHEREAS, the ECCC Diamond Warriors earned the right to host and serve as the top seed for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 2016 Region 23 Baseball Tournament.  The Diamond Warriors Baseball Team advanced to the Championship Game of the NJCAA Region 23 Baseball Tournament by defeating Northwest Mississippi Community College 3-2 and Jones County Junior College 11-10, before falling twice to Jones County in Championship Games to end their season; and

     WHEREAS, the outstanding performance by the Diamond Warriors Baseball Team earned the team a No. 10 ranking in the NJCAA Division II Baseball Poll; and

     WHEREAS, two members of the ECCC Diamond Warriors were recognized for their play during the season by the NJCAA, including freshman first baseman Cole Prestegard of Huntsville (Alabama) High School and sophomore pitcher Channing Wall of Louisville High School, who were named to the 2016 NJCAA All-Region 23 Team; and

     WHEREAS, several members of the ECCC Diamond Warriors were recognized by the MACJC, including first baseman Cole Prestegard, First Team All-State; pitcher Channing Wall, First Team All-State; freshman first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Clark of Neshoba Central High School, First Team All-State; sophomore left-fielder Matt Mitchell of Lake High School, First Team All-State; sophomore pitcher Peyton Cain of Newton County High School, Second Team All-State; freshman shortstop Billy Cameron of Mendenhall High School, Second Team All-State; freshman center-fielder Nathan Roseberry of Purvis High School, Second Team All-State; sophomore second baseman Dylan Snypes of Wayne County High School, Second Team All-State; and freshman pitcher Luke Yancey of East Rankin Academy, Second Team All-State; and

     WHEREAS, several members of the Warrior Baseball Team were recognized by their teammates and the college for their hard work, dedication and superior play in 2016, including pitcher Channing Wall and first baseman Cole Prestegard, Co-Most Valuable Players; pitcher Channing Wall, Most Valuable Pitcher; sophomore catcher Michael Davis of Clinton High School, Most Competitive; left-fielder Matt Mitchell, Best Teammate; pitcher Luke Yancey, Most Improved Player; and second baseman Dylan Snypes, Most Valuable Defensive Player; and

     WHEREAS, the ECCC Diamond Warriors have been superbly coached by Head Coach Neal Holliman and Assistant Coaches Jake Rowell and Tyler Buckley.  Coach Holliman has brought additional honor to himself and to ECCC by being named the MACJC Coach of the Year and the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the Diamond Warriors Baseball Team have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to East Central Community College, the team members' parents and hometown communities, and the State of Mississippi as they have achieved these accolades the EC Way – Excellence with Class; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these college athletes who have brought honor to their college, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East Central Community College (ECCC) "Diamond Warriors" Baseball Team and Head Coach Neal Holliman for their outstanding 2016 season and for winning the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Baseball Championship, and extend to them our best wishes in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Neal Holliman and East Central Community College (ECCC) President Dr. Billy W. Stewart, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
