A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF RIPLEY, MISSISSIPPI, MAYOR KERRY W. HILL.

WHEREAS, Ripley Mayor Kerry W. Hill, 75, passed away on December 27, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Hill was first elected in 1969 as Ripley's youngest Mayor at the age of 32 and was reelected in 1973 and 1977 and was defeated in 1981.  He was reelected in 1985 and served until 1989 and was reelected in 2009 for his 5th term.  His election in 2009 also made him the city's oldest Mayor on record; therefore, he held the rights to the youngest (32) and oldest (73) Mayor ever elected in Ripley; and

WHEREAS, the City of Ripley will fly flags at half-mast in Hill's honor and City Hall will close on the day of the late Mayor's funeral.  Alderman-at-Large Bonnie Caviness stated that Mayor Hill "will be remembered as one of the best Mayors Ripley ever had.  He really enjoyed being Mayor and he had endeared himself to all the people at City Hall.  He was a brilliant man, very efficient in his public duties, and was able to recall important facts immediately.  He was very supportive of local law enforcement"; and

WHEREAS, Kerry Hill owned a business called Tire Town in Ripley in the 1960s and 1970s and its motto was "Spin a Tire."  He owned the WTXI Radio Station in Ripley from 1979-1990; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Hill was a wonderful example for public servants and it is with sadness that we note the passing of this dedicated community leader:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the public service of Ripley, Mississippi, Mayor Kerry W. Hill, and extend our sympathy to his surviving family on his passing.
