Senate Concurrent Resolution 581

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ADAMS COUNTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL "REBELS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DAVID KING FOR WINNING THE MAIS CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER A SEASON OF ADVERSITY.

WHEREAS, the 36-year drought is over.  After a season that dealt with adversity with forfeiting of its first seven games due to an ineligible player and having to win out to get in the playoffs, No. 14 seed Adams County Christian School "Rebels" Football Team would use a big second quarter to get past No. 1 seed Indianola Academy 29-17 to cap what should have been an undefeated season and claim the MAIS Class AAA State Championship at Jackson Academy on November 15, 2018; and

WHEREAS, it was the second State Title in school history for the Rebels (6-7) and their first since 1982; and

WHEREAS, "We were able to capitalize on some mistakes and this team was so hungry after what happened to us.  We were just on an unusual mission," Adams County Christian School Head Coach David King said.  "Jakarius Caston is the real deal and was an absolute pleasure to coach and he will to on to play college football somewhere"; and

WHEREAS, all of the scoring took place in the first half.  On a night in which ACCS scored 22 points in the second quarter and its defense shut out the Colonels in the second half, the Rebels can for the first time since 1982 call themselves State Champions; and

WHEREAS, "The atmosphere was crazy.  The whole City of Natchez was behind us after they learned of what happened," Senior Cornerback/Wide Receiver Kemari Clark said.  "We had to get the State Title for them."  And as Clark said, it wasn't easy.  Indianola Academy led ACCS 17-7 early in the second quarter before the Rebels scored 22 unanswered points to end the quarter for a 29-17 halftime lead.  That would also end up being the final score as the Rebels would celebrate winning the State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the 2018 Adams County Christian School "Rebels" State Championship Football Team Roster is:  Kendrick January, Jr., CB, WR; Jakarius Caston, RB, WR; Paul Cupstid, WR; Jacorian Sewell, OLB; Jacob McDaniel, QB, MLB; Sterling Yarbrough, QB; Yohan Thompson, DE, TE; Tripp Cotten, QB, FS; Greg Jones, WR, FS; Glaston Magee, WR; Joseph Guice, CB; Dawson Parker, OLB, FB; Rhet McDonald, MLB, FB; Will Rushing, MLB, RB; Jason Martin, DE; Win Mardis, C; Aaron Newman, T; Austin Blanton, DT; Vince Carter, G, C; and Cedric Green, G; and Head Coach David King; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Adams County Christian School "Rebels" Football Team and Head Coach and School Headmaster David King for winning the MAIS Class AAA State Championship after a season of adversity, and extend our best wishes to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach David King for the team, forwarded to Principal Rick Fife and the Board of Trustees of Adams County Christian School, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
