Senate Concurrent Resolution 582
(As Adopted by Senate and House)
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HANCOCK HIGH SCHOOL "LADY HAWKS" VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DAVID IRWIN FOR WINNING THE 2010 MHSAA CLASS III STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, on October 9, 2010, the Hancock High School "Lady Hawks" Volleyball Team won the MHSAA Class III State Championship at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Hancock County has built quite a winning tradition in girls volleyball. In 2007, the Hancock Volleyball Team achieved their first winning record in program history with a 12-9 record. The following year, in 2008, they became the undefeated district champions and made it to state for the first time in program history and were named the South State Runners-up. In 2009, they again became the undefeated district champions, won the South State Championship against Northwest Rankin High School and moved on to the State Championship for the first time in school history. After rallying back from a two-set deficit, the Lady Hawks forced a fifteen-point deciding game. After the hard fought, five-set battle against Tupelo High School, Hancock lost, shattering their undefeated in-state record by a mere four points. In 2010, after graduating three seniors, Hancock again became the undefeated District Champions and South State Champions after defeating Pascagoula, Hattiesburg and Oak Grove. The Lady Hawks again found themselves in the State Championship, matched up against the formidable Tupelo Lady Wave. This time, however, Hancock found themselves up by two sets, only to fall two and force another deciding fifth match against the number one and two ranked teams in the state. The Lady Hawks prevailed by seven points to claim their 2010 State Championship trophy and gold medals; and
WHEREAS, the Hancock High School Girls Volleyball Team finished the season with a number one ranking in the state and a 30-6 record; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 Hancock "Lady Hawks" Varsity Volleyball roster is as follows: Abigail Arcement, Cambria Boone, Candice Boone, Bailey Hoda, Cierra Knight, Danielle Ladner, Destiny Marks, Paige Morel, Brittany Nutting, Victoria Nutting and Shelby Sattler; Managers Chelsea Ladner, Karigen Hoda, Hali Patton and Katelyn Lamb; Head Coach David Irwin; Assistant Coaches Desmond Hoda and Allison Marks; and Athletic Director Shawn Keener; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special accomplishment by a team of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hancock High School "Lady Hawks" Volleyball Team and Head Coach David Irwin for winning the 2010 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class III State Championship and their Number 1 ranking, and extend to the team members, their parents, sponsors and coaches our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Irwin and Principal Rhett Ladner, forwarded to the Hancock County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
