A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE JUDICIAL SERVICE OF 15TH CIRCUIT COURT DISTRICT JUDGE ROBERT I. PRICHARD III OF PICAYUNE, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, 15th Circuit Court District Judge Robert I. Prichard III of Picayune, Mississippi, has completed 38 years of distinguished service to The Mississippi Bar and to the people of his district.  At the completion of his final term of office, Judge Prichard was the Senior sitting trial judge in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Prichard was admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Mississippi and Alabama, including Supreme Courts of each state.  He was admitted to practice in all Federal District Courts of the Southern District of Mississippi and in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Prichard entered the private practice of law from 1963-1972 and formed the Law Firm of Stewart & Prichard; and

     WHEREAS, prior to the circuit judgeship, he was Youth Court Referee for Pearl River County from 1968-1972; City Judge of Picayune, Mississippi, from October 1969 - December 1972; and Circuit Judge, State of Mississippi, 15th Judicial District from 1972-2010; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Prichard's extensive professional activity includes:  member of Mississippi, Alabama and American Bar Associations; member of American Judicature Society; past member of Alternate Resolution and Dispute Committee of the Mississippi Bar Association; Co-Chairman of the Criminal Justice Task Force of the Mississippi Bar Association; elected to Who's Who of American Trial Lawyers and Who's Who of the American Judiciary; Adjunct Professor-University of Southern Mississippi Criminal Justice; Co-Chairman of the Supreme Court Uniform Criminal Rules & Practice Procedure's Committee; recipient of the Mississippi Bar's Judicial Excellence Award in 2002; and

     WHEREAS, his civic and professional organizations:  past member, Vice President, President-Elect and member of the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club, Picayune, Mississippi; past member of Directors, Picayune Jaycees & Picayune Chamber of Commerce; past Director of R & D Center and past member of the Board of Directors of Picayune Y.M.C.A.; member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity, University of Alabama; founder member of SAE, received national award of SAE for highest effort in category of law in 1993; member of the Commerce Executive Society of the University of Alabama; and life member, Professional Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi; he attained rank of Eagle Scout while participating in the Boy Scout program.  Judge Prichard is presently executive board member, Pine Burr Council, Boy Scouts of America, and past Finance Chairman of the Pine Burr Area Council; District Chairman of Tung Belt District, awarded Pine Burr Award in 1992 and the Silver Beaver Award in 1993; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Prichard is a graduate of the University of Alabama, Commerce and Business Administration (BS Degree 1960) and graduate of University of Alabama School of Law, LLB and JD degree 1963.  He graduated from Murrah High School in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Prichard has exemplified judicial expertise and temperament during his long and dedicated service, and we join the members of the Mississippi legal profession in acknowledging the service of this long-tenured jurist:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend 15th Circuit Court District Judge Robert I. Prichard III of Picayune, Mississippi, and extend to him and his family the thanks of a grateful state for his judicial service and best wishes for his future professional and civic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Judge Prichard, forwarded to the Mississippi Supreme Court and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
