A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING COLONEL DEBORAH WALLEY COLEMAN FOR HER NOTABLE MILITARY AND CIVIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD.

     WHEREAS, Deborah Walley Coleman is a true role model for women in the Mississippi National Guard today; and

     WHEREAS, Colonel Coleman is the Counterdrug Coordinator for the Mississippi National Guard Counterdrug Task Force and the Commandant of the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy in Meridian; and

     WHEREAS, she joined the Mississippi National Guard in 1985 with assignments to include:  Administrative Clerk, 114th Area Support Group, Platoon Leader with the 786th Transportation Company, Lucedale, where she served a tour in Desert Shield/Storm; Detachment Commander, HHD, 150th Quartermaster Battalion, Meridian, Company Commander, HHC, 106th Support Battalion, Monticello, and various staff positions with a tour during Operation Iraqi Freedom III as a Team Leader with the 184th Container Management Element in the Baghdad area, Distribution Management Chief, the 185th (E) Sustainment Command; Support Operations Division; and

     WHEREAS, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  Her military education includes Officer Candidate School, the Transportation Officer Basic Course, the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course, Support Operations Course, Command and Services Support School and Command and General Staff College Course.  She is a Certified Prevention Manager with the Mississippi Association of Addition Professionals.  She is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Belhaven University; and

     WHEREAS, her awards and decorations past and present include:  Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal ("V" Valor Device), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M", Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Mississippi Magnolia Medal, Mississippi Commendation Medal, Mississippi Service School Ribbon and Mississippi Longevity Ribbon; and

     WHEREAS, Colonel Coleman is also very active in the community with notable accomplishments that include:  Baptist Lifetime for Women, 2007 Strong Woman of the Year nominee, Mississippi Business Journal "Mississippi's Top 40 Under 40" for 2008, 2007-2008 Leadership Greater Jackson Class Graduate, featured as one of "Mississippi's Heroes" in the Mississippi Children's Museum Video, First nonspecialty branch female Colonel in the Mississippi Army National Guard, One of Mississippi Business Journal's "Mississippi's 50 Leading Business Women" for 2010, and is a statewide recipient of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse's Herbert L. Loving Outstanding Service Award for 2011.  She is active in numerous professional associations that further the lives of many National Guard members, especially in relation to women of the Mississippi National Guard; and

     WHEREAS, it was her late husband Colonel Stacy Coleman, whom she says was her role model.  "My late beloved husband, a highly decorated and respected Special Forces Officer, gave so much of himself to his family and his country," said Deborah.  "He will always be a role model for me"; and

     WHEREAS, Colonel Coleman currently resides in Brandon and was married to the late Colonel Robert Stacy Coleman.  They have two sons, Robert Hunt and Matthew Wiley; and

     WHEREAS, Colonel Coleman is a leader with a fine reputation among all of her colleagues, whether it be Guard members, church members, Junior League volunteers, drug prevention program associates or at home with her two sons, and it is with great pride that we join the Mississippi Army National Guard in commending this officer who has brought honor to her family, her unit, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute Colonel Deborah Walley Coleman for her notable military and civic accomplishments on the occasion of her retirement from the Mississippi Army National Guard, and extend best wishes to her and her family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Colonel Coleman, forwarded to the Adjutant General of the Mississippi National Guard and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
