A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LEGENDARY JACKSON STATE BASEBALL COACH ROBERT "BOB" BRADDY UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE NATIONAL COLLEGE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME.
WHEREAS, legendary Jackson State Baseball Coach Robert "Bob" Braddy was one of seven inductees announced for the National College Baseball Hall of Fame on March 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Bob Braddy coached the Tigers for 28 seasons and won 824 games and 12 Conference Championships. Jackson State University advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times in Braddy's tenure; and
WHEREAS, Coach Braddy was named NAIA District Coach of the Year on two occasions and SWAC Coach of the Year eight times. Braddy was inducted into the Tigers' Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 and the SWAC Hall of Fame 20 years later. Braddy became the first African-American Coach to be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame when he was chosen in 2003; and
WHEREAS, in 2009, college baseball in the United States celebrated its 150th Anniversary. The College Baseball Foundation was created to become the founder in the National College
Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame to distinguish this important and ongoing history. The College Baseball Foundation utilizes charitable gifts for the construction of the National College Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame in Lubbock, Texas, and to expand the awareness and visibility of college baseball's past, present and future; and
WHEREAS, Coach Braddy is the former Athletic Director of Jackson State University, founded in 1877, which is an historically black, high research activity university located in Jackson, the Capital City of the State of Mississippi. Officially designed as Mississippi's Urban University, Jackson State continues to enhance the state, nation and world through comprehensive economic development, health care, technological and educational initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's 2016 class will be inducted "as part of the Annual Night of Champions Celebration of College Baseball" on July 1-2, 2016, in Lubbock, Texas; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a Mississippi coach who has brought honor to his university, his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate legendary Jackson State Coach Robert "Bob" Braddy upon his induction into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature on this auspicious occasion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Braddy and his family, forwarded to the President and Athletic Director of Jackson State University, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
