A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JOHN W. "JOHNNY" LANG OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI GOLF ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.

     WHEREAS, John W. "Johnny" Lang was inducted into the Mississippi Golf Association Hall of Fame on February 24, 2024; and

     WHEREAS, Lang was born in Laurel, Mississippi, moving with his family to Meridian, Mississippi, where he spent many days learning and improving his golf skills, graduating from Meridian High School in 1974; and

     WHEREAS, Johnny chose to attend the University of Mississippi, where he was a four—year letterman on the Ole Miss Golf Team, receiving a BBA in Accounting in 1978, and a Masters in Accounting in 1980; and

     WHEREAS, during his collegiate golf career in Oxford, Johnny won the 1974 Title at Centenary Junior/Senior Collegiate played in Shreveport, Louisiana, and the 1975 Auburn Lake Martin Collegiate Championship; and

     WHEREAS, Johnny played outside the collegiate field, winning the Mississippi State Amateur Championship in 1976 and 1980; and

     WHEREAS, after a successful stint as a Class A PGA Professional at Bel—Air Country Club in Los Angeles, California, from 1983—1985, Johnny moved back to Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, back to playing in the amateur ranks, Lang captured back—to—back wins in 1990 and 1991 in the Mississippi Mid—Amateur Championships; and

     WHEREAS, as Johnny has been an outstanding golfer, he has also given back to the community as a member of Century Club Charities since 1999; and

     WHEREAS, he has given a significant amount of his time to Century Club Charities, having served as President from 2012—2014, and since 2018, he has served as Treasurer; and

     WHEREAS, Johnny has achieved much success on and off the golf course, including a deserved induction to the Mississippi Golf Association Hall of Fame, and in further acknowledgment of his many contributions to the community, we join his many friends and colleagues in recognizing this outstanding Mississippian who has brought honor to his family, his career, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate John W. "Johnny" Lang of Jackson, Mississippi, upon his induction into the Mississippi Golf Association Hall of Fame, and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Johnny Lang and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
