A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR PERRY LEE FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.
WHEREAS, Senator Perry Lee has announced that he will not be seeking reelection, which he characterizes as a "self-imposed term limit." He has represented Senate District 35 which is comprised of portions of Copiah, Covington, Rankin and Simpson Counties. In Perry Lee, the citizens of District 35 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with county agent experience (Senator Lee often stated that rural citizens thought the county agent knew everything); and
WHEREAS, Senator Lee served for 12 years in the Mississippi Senate from 2004-2015. His committee assignments include the following: Chairman of Local and Private (which handles a wide variety of legislation requested by counties and municipalities), Vice Chairman of Highways and Transportation, Appropriations, Environmental Protection, Conservation and Water Resources; Ethics, Judiciary B, Municipalities, PEER and Universities and Colleges; and
WHEREAS, Senator Lee's key legislative interest included handling the budget of the Department of Public Safety and addressing the concerns of the uniformed troopers and law enforcement officers of our state. He has served as Chair of the Legislative Prayer Caucus and has led the Senate in prayer on many occasions. As an avid outdoorsman he was active in hunting and fishing regulation; and
WHEREAS, Perry is a resident of Mendenhall and is a retired County Agricultural Agent and a Certified Crop Advisor. He and his wife, Janella, are Baptists and have two children, Amanda and Lenora; and five grandchildren: Alex, Annlee, Bella, Deuce and Asher; and
WHEREAS, Senator Lee's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment and fairness. He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles, as father, husband, county agent, statesman, community leader and leader in the Mississippi Senate and as a true friend:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Perry Lee, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom he was associated, and we wish Perry and his family much success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Lee and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
