A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to increase funding for instructional resources, including textbooks, instructional supplies, and equipment, and to Allow local school administrative units the flexibility to spend these funds on the resources they determine are most important.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction the sum of thirty‑five million dollars ($35,000,000) for the 2017‑2018 fiscal year and the sum of thirty‑five million dollars ($35,000,000) for the 2018‑2019 fiscal year to increase funding for textbooks and digital resources.
SECTION 2. Local school administrative units shall have the flexibility to use all funds in this allotment category for instructional resources, including textbooks, instructional supplies, and equipment, that they determine are most important.
SECTION 3. This act becomes effective July 1, 2017.
