A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to require community colleges to offer ged testing programs and ged tests in english.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 115D‑5(s) reads as rewritten:

"(s)       General Educational Development (GED) testing programs and GED tests shall not be offered in a language other than English.

The State Board of Community Colleges may retain and budget fees charged to students taking the General Education Educational Development (GED) test. Fees collected for this purpose shall be used only to (i) offset the costs of the GED test, including the cost of scoring the test, (ii) offset the costs of printing GED certificates, and (iii) meet federal and State reporting requirements related to the test."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2011, and applies to testing programs and tests offered after that date.
