Short Title:        State Employee Payroll Deduction for Bus Pass.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to allow a Payroll Deduction for State Employees to Pay for Discretionary Transportation and Parking Privileges and require the Department of Administration to offer bus passes by payroll deduction.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 143B‑426.40A is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(m)      Payroll Deduction for State Employees to Pay for Discretionary Transportation and Parking Privileges Allowed. – Subject to rules adopted by the State Controller, if the Department of Administration approves a payroll deduction plan under this subsection, an employee of the State may authorize, in writing, the periodic deduction from the employee's salary or wages paid for employment by the State of a designated lump sum for discretionary transportation and parking privileges."

SECTION 2.  The Department of Administration shall use its best efforts to offer bus passes by payroll deduction under Section 1 of this act.

SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
