A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT TO DIRECT THE joint LEGISLATIVE STUDY COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND youth TO STUDY the child support guidelines, specifically as related to children with developmental disabilities.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  The Joint Legislative Study Commission on Children and Youth shall study the North Carolina child support guidelines, specifically as related to children with developmental disabilities.  For purposes of this section, "developmental disability" shall have the same meaning as in G.S. 122C‑3(12a).  In conducting the study, the Commission shall focus on all of the following:

(1)        Formulate recommendations to the Conference of Chief District Court Judges regarding the child support guidelines, specifically as related to children with developmental disabilities.

(2)        Develop draft legislation to present to the 2012 Regular Session of the 2011 General Assembly, as necessary.

(3)        Other issues the Commission deems relevant.

SECTION 2.  The Commission shall report the results of the study to the 2012 Regular Session of the 2011 General Assembly upon its convening.

SECTION 3.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
