STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Five

 

AN ACT relative to amending the term length for county commissioners.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  State and County Officers to be Elected; Elected for 2-Year Term; County Commissioners.  RSA 653:1, VI is repealed and reenacted to read as follows:

VI.  County commissioners as follows:

(a) Hillsborough county-one county commissioner by those voters in each county commissioner district in the county;

(b) Carroll county-one county commissioner from each county commissioner district by all the voters of the county;

(c) Strafford county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district;

(d) Cheshire county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district;

(e)  Sullivan county-one county commissioner from each county commissioner district by all the voters of the county;

(f)  Belknap county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district;

(g)  Rockingham county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district;

(h)  Merrimack county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district in the county;

(i)  Coos county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district;

(j)  Grafton county-one county commissioner by the voters in each county commissioner district.

2  Election of County Commissioners; Changing Term; Applicability.  The changes in terms of county commissioners established by this act shall not affect constituencies or terms of office of county commissioners of the checklist presently in office.  If there shall be a vacancy in a county commissioner position for any reason prior to the 2026 state general election, the vacancy shall be filled as provided in law for county commissioners that existed for the 2024 state general election.

3  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
