STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fourteen
AN ACT relative to assault of a sports official.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 Assault and Related Offenses; Simple Assault. Amend RSA 631:2-a to read as follows:
631:2-a Simple Assault.
I. A person is guilty of simple assault if [he] such person:
(a) Purposely or knowingly causes bodily injury or unprivileged physical contact to another; or
(b) Recklessly causes bodily injury to another; or
(c) Negligently causes bodily injury to another by means of a deadly weapon.
II. Simple assault is a misdemeanor unless committed in a fight entered into by mutual consent, in which case it is a violation.
III. A person convicted of simple assault of a sports official under this section which occurs at a sports event shall be fined not less than $500, may be required to participate in counseling or community service, and may be temporarily prohibited from attending sports events, as determined by the court. In this paragraph, “sports official” means a person who is authorized to enforce the rules of a sports event, and "sports event" means any athletic activity sanctioned by the state or any of its political subdivisions, or by a business or charitable organization of any kind.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect January 1, 2015.
