METHODOLOGY:
This bill allows certain Department of Corrections officials to continue to be classified as group II members in the retirement system. The Department of Corrections states this bill would support staff retention and knowledge transfer by allowing certain Department employees to continue to be classified as group II members in the retirement system after promotion. This could lessen the impact of employee departures, aid in succession planning, and support career development within the Department. The Department cannot predict the number of Group II employees meeting the criteria that may be appointed to the positions listed in the bill. This makes the fiscal impact to the Department indeterminable. Any fiscal impact would be no change or an increase in expenditures. The chart below reflects the increase in benefits if those currently assigned to the positions were to be classified as Group II employees.
