     Requires Superintendent of State Police to conduct study prior to closing road station.

An Act concerning the Superintendent of State Police and supplementing Title 53 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Prior to ordering the cessation of all operations at any State Police road station, the Superintendent of State Police shall conduct a study to determine the effects of such a closure on the public safety and welfare of the citizens of the State of New Jersey.  The study shall examine, but not be limited to, the impact on response times, cost effectiveness, and effect on other law enforcement agencies.  If, after conducting the study, the superintendent determines to cease operations at a specific road station, the superintendent shall reestablish those operations at a new location in the same county.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     Under the provisions of this bill, the Superintendent of State Police is required to conduct a study prior to discontinuing operations at any State Police road station.  The study is to determine the effects of such a closure on the public safety and welfare of the citizens of the State of New Jersey.  The study would examine, but not be limited to, the impact on response times, cost effectiveness, and effect on other law enforcement agencies.  If, after conducting the study, the superintendent determines to cease operations at a specific road station, the bill requires the superintendent to reestablish those operations at a new location in the same county.
