     Prohibits Medicaid funding for abortifacients.

An Act concerning Medicaid payments for abortifacients and supplementing Title 30 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    No payments for medical assistance shall be made under P.L.1968, c.413 (C.30:4D-1 et seq.) for the termination of a pregnancy through the use of an abortifacient, including but not limited to mifepristone, for any reason except where it is medically indicated to be necessary to preserve the woman's life.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill provides that Medicaid funds shall not be used for the termination of a woman's pregnancy through the use of abortifacients, including but not limited to mifepristone (RU-486), for any reason except where it is medically indicated to be necessary to preserve the woman's life.
