STATEMENT
This bill reduces the number of signatures required on a petition to recall an elected official. At present, in order to have the question of the recall of an elected official placed on the ballot for consideration by the voters, a recall petition must be signed by a number of registered voters of a jurisdiction equal to at least 25% of the persons registered to vote in that jurisdiction on the date of the general election preceding the date on which the sponsors of the petition file a notice of intention to seek the official's recall. The bill would provide, instead, that a recall petition be signed by a number of registered voters of the jurisdiction of the official sought to be recalled equal to at least 12% of the voters who voted in that jurisdiction at the election at which that official was elected.
