An Act concerning dog canvasses and repealing part of P.L.1941, c.151.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Section 15 of P.L.1941, c.151 (C.4:19-15.15) is repealed.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would repeal the requirement in current law (N.J.S.A.4:19-15.15) that the governing body of every municipality, either annually or biennially, appoint a person to undertake a census of all dogs owned, kept or harbored in the municipality. The statute also requires that person to report, on or before September 1 of the year in which the census is taken, to the clerk or other person designated to license dogs in the municipality, to the local board of health, and to the State Department of Health the result of the census, as well as the names and addresses of persons owning, keeping or harboring unlicensed dogs, the number of unlicensed dogs owned, kept or harbored by each persons, and a complete description of each of said unlicensed dogs.
