STATEMENT

This bill requires that public and nonpublic schools provide eligible high school pupils with voter registration materials, including a summary of voter registration eligibility requirements, a voter registration form, and material describing the role of a citizen and the importance of voting, prior to the graduation date for the school year.  Under current law, schools are required to provide a voter registration form and material describing the role of a citizen and the importance of voting to pupils in conjunction with voter registration drives conducted by the county commissioner of registration.  The purpose of this bill is to modify the means of distributing this information to pupils.  The objective is to increase the likelihood that the materials are received.
