SYNOPSIS

     Allows an institution of higher education to require the mental health records of a student committed to attend the institution.

An Act concerning the provision of certain student information to institutions of higher education and supplementing chapter 3B of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    An institution of higher education may require that a student accepted by and committed to attend, or who is attending, the institution provide the institution with a complete student record, including any mental health records, held by the originating high school. The records shall be kept confidential as required by State and federal law.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill allows each public and independent institution of higher education to require that any student accepted to the institution and who has committed to attend, or who is attending, the institution to provide a complete student record, including any mental health records, held by the originating high school. Under the bill, the records will be kept confidential as required by State and federal law.
