SYNOPSIS
Requires Division of Travel and Tourism and NJ Historical Commission to provide volunteer opportunities on Internet website.

An Act concerning volunteer opportunities and supplementing Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes and P.L.1977, c.225 (C.34:1A-45 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. In addition to the powers and duties of the New Jersey Historical Commission established pursuant to N.J.S.18A:73-21 et seq., the commission shall provide information concerning volunteer opportunities on its Internet website, and shall, whenever possible, coordinate and collaborate with the Governor's Office of Volunteerism, or its successor office.
The commission, through its website, shall: provide an opportunity for historical and history destinations, programs, societies, and venues, including nonprofit organizations, to solicit volunteers, and provide to interested persons a directory or resource to search for volunteer opportunities.
2. In addition to the powers and duties of the division established pursuant to section 9 of P.L.1977, c.225 (C.34:1A-53), the division shall provide information concerning volunteer opportunities on its Internet website, and shall, whenever possible, coordinate and collaborate with the Governor's Office of Volunteerism, or its successor office.
The division, through its website, shall: provide an opportunity for travel and tourism destinations, organizations, programs, and venues, including nonprofit organizations and destination marketing organizations, to solicit volunteers, and provide to interested persons a directory or resource to search for volunteer opportunities.
3. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill would require the Division of Travel and Tourism and the New Jersey Historical Commission, both in the Department of State, to provide information about volunteer opportunities on their respective Internet websites. The bill would also require the division and the commission to coordinate and collaborate with the Governor's Office of Volunteerism whenever possible.
The commission and the division, division, through their websites, would: provide an opportunity for historical and history destinations, programs, societies, and venues, including nonprofit organizations, and for travel and tourism destinations, organizations, programs, and venues, including nonprofit organizations and destination marketing organizations, to solicit volunteers, and provide to interested persons a directory or resource to search for volunteer opportunities.
New Jersey's 1.5 million volunteers make a difference in communities Statewide through 170 million hours of service each year, by protecting and beautifying the environment, sustaining the arts and art history, supporting the work of cultural institutions, and standing ready to assist many other organizations and efforts in countless ways. This bill would help connect volunteers with organizations needing volunteers, which would be to the benefit of all.
