STATEMENT
This bill makes a State fiscal year 2018 supplemental appropriation of $1,000,000 from the General Fund to the Department of State for the Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory at the Rutgers Agricultural Experiment Station. The purpose of this appropriation is to enhance seed production and to facilitate research innovation.
The Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory has a 120-year tradition of disseminating research results and working with State and federal agencies, fisheries, and aquaculture communities, concentrating on species of commercial importance to New Jersey. Enhancing seed production through selective breeding allows for the development of genetically improved, disease-resistant, shellfish better suited for the New Jersey shoreline.
