STATEMENT

This bill provides that whenever a show, concert, demonstration, exhibition, presentation, performance, or other event sponsored by an entity that receives a grant in any amount from the State to help defray all or part of the costs of production, in whole or in part, the ticket or promotional materials provided to a person attending the event must note the presence of restaurants and overnight accommodations in the vicinity of the event or include the address of the website of the governmental or private organization that contain such information.

Under the bill, the New Jersey Historic Trust, the New Jersey Historical Commission, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and the New Jersey Cultural Trust would be the State cultural entities whose grant recipients must provide information on food and lodging in the vicinity of the event funded.

Under current law, the money the State provides to cultural entities is generated by the State hotel and motel occupancy fee, pursuant to N.J.S.A.54:32D-1 et seq.  It is hoped that if more people stay at hotels and motels near events funded by State grants, more funds will be available for additional State grants.
