SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits electric transmission company from constructing overhead electric transmission lines within 100 feet of buildings.

An Act concerning certain electric transmission lines and supplementing Title 48 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    As used in P.L.    , c.    (C.      ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill):

     "Building" means a structure enclosed with exterior walls or fire walls, built, erected, and framed of component structural parts, designed for the housing, shelter, enclosure, and support of individuals, animals, or property of any kind.

     "Electric transmission company" means a company that transmits electricity to end users within this State that is under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

     "Overhead electric transmission line" means an electrical line, wire, or cable, including the supporting structures and appurtenant facilities, that is above ground, rated at 69 kilovolts or greater, and that transmits electricity from a generating facility to electric substations or switching stations.

 

     2.    Notwithstanding any other law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, an electric transmission company shall not construct an overhead electric transmission line at a distance within 100 feet from any building in this State.

 

     3.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill prohibits an electric transmission company from constructing an overhead electric transmission line within 100 feet of any building.
